Set Up
- Download Alexa and C by GE apps on your mobile device and create accounts (if needed).
- Plug the power source into the Sol, and the other end into a power outlet. Once the Orange light in the inner ring starts spinning, your Sol is ready to be setup.
- In your C by GE app, on the home screen, click “Add New Devices”
- Click “Sol”
- Connect to Sol wi-fi (GESOL_XXXX) – Follow the instructions in the app.
- If not connected, Factory Reset Sol and start Setup process again.
- Enable Alexa Voice Services by linking your Sol to your Amazon account.
- To setup Alex voice control, download Alexa app and enable the C by GE skill.
- Log into the Alexa app with your Amazon account.
- Go to the Menu Bar and select Skills & Games.
- Search for “C by GE”
- Enable the “C by GE” skill with your C by GE account login information
- Ask your Sol to Discover Devices: “Alexa, discover devices.”
- Your Sol set up is complete. You can now control your Sol with the C by GE app and Alexa voice commands.
Yes, the Sol needs to be connected to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Add your bulbs to same location as Sol in the C by GE app.
- Say “Alexa, discover my devices” to Sol.
- Your Alexa account will discover and connect to your bulbs.
Tip: In the Alexa app, you can group and rename your bulbs.
Create a Smart Home Device Group
After you create a group, you can control all devices in the group with simple commands like “Turn on Basement Lights" or "Set Bedroom Lights to 80%." To learn more about the commands you can use to control your smart home devices, go to Use Your Smart Home Device with Alexa.
Note: For best results, avoid names that start with the same first word for multiple devices or groups, and only add similar devices to a group. For example, keep thermostats separate from lights and switches.
- To create a smart home device group in the Alexa app:
- Open the left navigation panel and select Smart Home.
- Under Groups, select Create group.
- Enter the name of the group into the text field.
- Tip: Give your group a recognizable name for Alexa to identify. Use names that have at least two to three syllables. If you have multiple groups, give each group a different name. For example, if you have devices in your living room and bedroom, you could name the groups "Living Room" and "Bedroom" respectively.
- Select the smart home device(s) you want to add to the group, and then select Save.
- To edit a smart home device group:
- Under Groups, select your smart home group.
- Make changes to your group:
- To edit the name, select the text field and then update the existing name.
- To add or remove smart home devices, select the checkboxes next to each device.
- To delete the group, select Delete this group.
Alexa, turn Sol Light on.
Alexa, turn Sol Light off.
Alexa, brighten Sol Light.
Alexa, dim Sol Light.
Alexa, set Sol Light to 100%. [other options: from 1% to 100%]
Alexa make Sol Light cooler.
Alexa make Sol Light warmer.
Alexa, set Sol Light to cool white. [other options: warm white, soft white, white or daylight]
Troubleshooting
You will need to Factory Reset your Sol. To Factory Reset, press and hold the action button and microphone off button for at least 10 seconds until Sol indicates it has been successfully reset. An orange light will start spinning around the inner ring of the Sol once the GESOL_XXXX Wi-Fi network is open and ready for setup.
Reset Sol by holding the microphone off and action buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds and go through the Sol setup process in the C by GE app. If that doesn’t work, reach out to customer service at help@cbyge.com
This means you have a new notification from Amazon. You can either say "Alexa, what are my notifications?" to listen to your notifications or "Alexa, clear notifications" to delete them. Both commands stop the inner ring from blinking yellow.
First, make sure your Sol is within range of your Wi-Fi router. Then, check your Wi-Fi router and make sure it hasn’t lost internet connection. If your router is connected to the internet, try unplugging your Sol and plugging it back in. If this does not work, please reach out to our customer service team so we can assist.

Delete the location that Sol is connected to: Go to settings, locations, then click on the location that the sol is in. Tap “Delete Location.”
Tip #1: You must have more than one location to delete a location.
Tip #2: If you have other C by GE devices in the same location as the Sol, your devices will need to be added into a different location.
To control the Sol with voice commands, you must enable the CbyGE skill in the Alexa app.

- Ask your Sol to Discover Devices: “Alexa, discover devices.”
Alexa will only discover individual devices. You will have to create new groups inside the Alexa app under the Smart Home section.

Top of base:
Dimming and Brightness control for the light.
Middle of base:
Microphone on left turns the Alexa voice assisstant on or off.
"C" in center turns light on or off.
Dot on right activates Alexa without saying "Hey, Alex."

Yes, you can make a clock display in the inner ring. Go to the Sol detail page in the C by GE app and make sure Clock Display is enabled. The blue light is the hour and red light is the minute.
Yes you can make a timer display in the inner ring. Go to the Sol detail page in the C by GE app and make sure Timer Display is enabled. To set a timer, simply say, “Alexa, set timer for X seconds.”
This is the Sol’s visual timer feature. The inner ring of the Sol will light up all the way at the beginning of the timer and lights will turn off as the timer counts down. The percentage of the inner ring that remains lit represents the percentage of time left on the timer. This feature can be disabled by opening the Sol detail page in the C by GE app.
The inner ring of the Sol will light up red to indicate when the microphone is turned off and Alexa isn’t listening. This feature can be disabled by opening the Sol detail page in the C by GE app.
This is your visual clock. The blue light represents the hour hand of a traditional clock, and the red light represents the minute hand

Yes, you can connect C by GE devices through the C by GE app or Alexa app. Other manufactures devices can be connected through the Alexa app only, enabling voice control through Alexa.
